About the Program

This graduate certificate is comprised of the five courses required by the SCDOE for application to be a state-certified ESOL teacher. These courses are EDUC 668 Principles and Strategies in ESOL Instruction, K-12; EDUC 667 Linguistics for Educators; EDUC 665 Cultural and Linguistic Diversity in Education; EDUC 592 Teaching Language and Literacy across the Content Areas; and EDUC 570 Teaching Reading and Writing for Multilingual Learners and Other Historically Marginalized Students. For clarity, The Citadel cannot officially award state certification in ESOL; after taking these courses, completers must fill out a short application with the SCDOE to be officially recognized by the SCDOE.
